James Richard
Carson
February 6, 1926 – February 3, 2017
A homegoing celebration for Mr. James Richard Carson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 will be held Saturday, February 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Sinai A.M. E. Zion Church, 2909N. Nebraska Ave., Rev. Jimmy Caldwell, pastor, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. James Richard Carson was born February 6, 1926 to Hiron Nathaniel Carson and Lena Wilson Carson, he had one brother Jeremiah Carson. He was known as Uncle Richard & also Jimmy. He was a quiet man and never had a lot to say, however when he spoke he imparted words of wisdom. He was a man of humility, kind to all and never spoke a negative word towards anyone. Uncle Richard was a strong disciplinarian to his nieces and nephew so much so as to those who didn't know differently thought he was their father. If they or any other children were misbehaving especially during church service, he only had to give a certain look, did not have to speak a word and behavior would immediately change. Uncle Richard was also a master carpenter and there were many young men who worked with him as an apprentice. While teaching, he displayed patience and would encourage them to do better if a mistake was made, his nephew Jeremiah shared this same talent. Uncle Richard and Rev. Harry Jones constructed the handicap ramp for the church annex building. Uncle Richard enjoyed making repairs and he did so here at Mt. Sinai and Hood Temple Churches, various homes in the Tampa Bay area and he also enjoyed working in his yard at home. Uncle Richard was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Zion Church and attended services faithfully until his health failed. He served for many years as usher board chairman, in addition he served on the Steward and Trustee Board. If he could assist in any other capacity, he did so without hesitation and with a willing heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Carson; parents, Rev. H.N. and Lena Carson; brother, Jeremiah Carson; nephew, Jeremiah Carson., Jr. and niece; Gwenda J. Carson. He leaves fond memories with nieces, Mary C. Johnson (Marion), Patricia A. Bates (Edward), Belinda J. Roberts, all of Tampa, Florida and Stephanie G. Carson of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama; nieces, nephews, great and great great-nieces and nephews, the Wilson family of Pensacola, Florida, he raised Janice Harris, Ernest, Howard and Karen Moore, Yvette Whitehead and Marissa; friends of Hood Temple and St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, the Lee, Owens and Wynn family; special friends, James Whitehead and Minnie Williams. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home of Friday, February 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
