Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Mr. James Alphonso Clardy, Sr. of Tampa, Florida who passed away Monday, August 10, 2015, will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3005 E. Ellicott Street, Rev. Dr. T.W. Jenkins, pastor officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. James was born in Greenville County, South Carolina on December 23, 1935 to the union of the late Bennie Clardy and Leila Johnson Clardy. "Alphonso", as he was affectionately called was one of 4 children. His Christian journey started at Moores Chapel United Methodist Church. After completing his education in the Greenville County public schools he relocated from South Carolina to Tampa, Florida, where he started his life-long career and family. James was a dedicated and faithful member of New Hope M.B. Church for over 40 years, where he served on Usher Board #2 and sang in the Male Chorus. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Benjamin Clardy. He leaves to celebrate his life and continue his legacy with his wife, Barbara Clardy; 3 daughters, Linda McDaniel (Jimmy, Sr.), Marie McDaniel (Steve) and Frances Durham, all of Greenville, SC and one son, James Alphonso Clardy, Jr., (Shavette); 2 sisters, Evelyn Clardy Berry of Mauldin, SC and Elaine Clardy Chapman of Roxbury, MA; 4 nieces, Valerie Berry Chatman (Michael) of Greenville, SC, Ramona Chapman and Esselena Chapman of Boston, MA and Betty Ann Chapman of Philadelphia, PA; nephew, Pastor Cornelius Sebastian Berry (Cassandra) of Macomb Township, MI; 6 grandchildren; Elder Melvin Anthony Durham of Chicago, IL, Jimmy McDaniel, Jr. of Greenville, SC, Jermaine McDaniel of Greenville, SC, Antone, Aniya and Avion Gadsden all of Tampa, FL; a devoted cousin, Larvenia Pepper; other special first cousins, all of South Carolina, as well as a host of great nieces, great nephews and great grandchildren. The visitation will be on Friday, August 21st at New Hope M.B. Church from 5pm-8pm. The family will receive friends from 6pm-7pm. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
