Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Mr. James Edward Grant III of Tampa, FL who passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015 will be held Saturday, June 20th, 10:00 a.m. at Bible Based Fellowship Church, 8718 N 46th Street, Rev. Dr. Earl Mason, pastor with Pastor Steven Oliver, officiating. The Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. James Edward Grant III was born to James Edward Grant, Jr. and Dian Grant-Johnson, on November 30, 1966. He entered into his home of eternal rest at the age of 48. He was married to LaWanda Banks-Grant on October 12, 2010. James was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Henry Dixon and Willie Ann Dixon and his aunt, Elizabeth "Liz" Carter. James or "Dee" as he was affectionately known by family members and friends was born in Tampa, Florida. He attended Plant High School and enjoyed participating in the school band. The brothers and the West Tampa community played a huge part in raising him. As a child, James began to develop a love and passion for cooking. He would often assist his mother, family and friends in the community preparing meals for others. His passion developed into a culinary career where he shared his talent & love for cooking. He made it his business to get the line in the kitchen going with music, laughing and joking around. He worked for Ruby Tuesday in Valrico, FL and the Sunset Grille in Ruskin, FL. James was an active member of his church, Transforming Lives Christian Center serving as co-director of the Children and Audio/Visual ministries with his wife. He took pleasure in cooking for family & friends, watching every sport you can imagine, relaxing at the beach and playing with his daughter. James loved to laugh and his favorite saying was, "If it's free it's for Dee." He had an amazing presence. Most would agree he never met a stranger. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and son James Edward Grant, III is lovingly survived by his dedicated, supportive wife, LaWanda Banks-Grant; children, James Brown, Dominic Grant, DeVondre Brown, (Stephanie), James Edward Grant IV, and Lauren Grant; parents, James Edward Grant, Jr. and Dian Grant-Johnson; an aunt, Deborah Fudge; two uncles, Robert-Earl Dixon and Rev. Leon Dixon; four grandchildren, Master Coleman-Brown, DeVondre J. Brown, Khalyb A. Grant and DeVondria M. Brown; cousins Twanda (Sherman) Milton, Angela Carter and Rasheda (Peter) Cummings; father figure, Rudy Sanders; brothers for life Rodnick Boyd, Robert Moore and Alec Muhammed; and a host of other loving cousins, relatives and friends. The visitation will be held on Friday, June 19th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
