Homegoing services for Mr. James W. Murrell, Jr. of Tampa who passed away, Friday, May 10, 2013, will be held Saturday, May 18th, 12:00 p.m. at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Dr., Rev. Larry Roundtree, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. James was born February 25, 1963 in Tampa, Florida, where he attended King High School and graduated in the class of 1981. He then received his associate degree in Graphic Arts and transferred to Atlanta, Georgia to continue his education at the Art Institute of Atlanta. His expertise afforded him the opportunity to work for such reputable companies as Turner Broadcasting, AOL, Nike and Coca Cola to name a few. James ventured out and founded his own company, Murrell Design Group, which in time became an integral part in creating the "Look of the Games" for the 1996 Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia. He is survived by his devoted wife, Michelle A. Murrell; children, Kelsey and Miles Murrell; parents, James W Murrell, Sr. and Gertrude Murrell; sisters, Connie Patterson and Michele Murrell; godmother, Thelma Curtis; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 17th, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
