Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Mr. James W. Murrell, Sr. "Jimmie" of Tampa who passed away, Friday, October 11, 2013, will be held Saturday, October 19th, 11:00 a.m. at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Dr., Pastor Larry Roundtree II, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. James W. Murrell, Sr. was born October 8, 1934 in Green Cove Springs, Florida to the late J.C. and Marie M. Murrell. James accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at Faith Temple M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Tanner who also baptized him. He attended school in Green Cove Springs, Florida and later moved to Tampa, Florida. He was employed by Bekins Moving & Storage Co., hauling furniture from one state to another. He worked 49 A years for Bekins and retired in 1993. He joined New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Bobby Jones in 1967 and was very active and sang in the Male Choir for many years, before he became ill. He was a family man and loved his wife and children and will be sadly missed by his family. James also enjoyed fishing, sports, driving trucks and working on puzzles. He was a loving and devoted husband to one wife for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James W. Murrell, Jr. He leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories with a devoted wife, Gertrude P. Murrell; daughters, Connie D. Patterson and Michele R. Murrell; grandchildren, Brien M. Richards, Kelsey N. Murrell, Courtney N. Patterson, Miles B. Murrell, Chantel M. Patterson and Kendal Wood; daughter-in-law, Michelle A. Murrell; niece, Felicia Waters; and a host of cousins; friends, Deacon Glen Baham and wife, Howard Davis and wife, Earnest Pinder and wife and Min. Willie Kimbrough and wife; and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, October 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
