A Homegoing Memorial Service for Mr. James Orlando Ricks, Jr., of Tampa who passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, will be held on Friday, January 4th, 6:00 p.m. at Keeney United Methodist Church, 7736 Destin Dr., Rev. Ronald Hubbard, officiating. Mr. James Orlando Ricks, Jr. entered this arena of life on September 4, 1942. He was a native of Tampa, Florida. As a proud graduate of Middleton's Class of 60, he furthered his education at Florida A&M University, where he indulged in his musical skills as a saxophonist, with the infamous Marching 100. Graduating in 1964, he majored in Elementary Education and taught in the Hillsborough County School District. Later, he worked with Hillsborough County as a Housing Rehabilitation Counselor, where he retired after thirty-plus years of service. Mr. Ricks was a member of Keeney United Methodist Church. He served as a member in the choir, the Pastor Parrish Committee, the United Methodist Men, and as an avid contributor to the youth within the church. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was one of his greatest passions. He became a member in 1967. As a result of being a proud "Kappa Man", his accomplishments included: Life Member, Master Builder, Foundation Club, and Million Dollar Club. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, taking endless photos of family and friends, conducting endless political conversations-debates. Mr. James Orlando Ricks, Jr. was a proud family man, awesome provider, and devoted to his life's commitment. Mr. Ricks was the only child of the late James O. Ricks, Sr. and Thelma S. Ricks; the former husband of Magdalene M. Ricks, and the father of Tasha N. Ricks (deceased), James O. Ricks, III (wife Enjunique Ricks), Jane Y. Ricks, and Ashley J. Fleming (god-daughter); 4 grandchildren, James O. Ricks, IV, Brandon D. Horace, Leroy Campbell, II, and Alexander J. Ricks. He also leaves to mourn a host of family, friends (special friend: Marzell Brown) and neighbors. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Friday evening for the service. There will be no visitation.
