Mr. James Edward Smith, Jr., affectionately known as "Smitty," was born on August 14, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to James Edward Smith, Sr., and Henrietta Smith. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Winchester, Arkansas. James served as an electronic radar detector technician in the Air Force. After retiring from the military, he became a manager at Hertz car rental at the Tampa International Airport and was a manager at the Officer's Club at MacDill Air Force Base. A man of many interests, Smitty found joy in reading, socializing, solving crossword puzzles, cooking, fishing, traveling, playing cards and mentoring others. James received his bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Tampa. He also cherished the companionship of his beloved family pet, Scooter. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Rivers of Life Church Ministries in Brandon, Florida, and worked in the Tabernacle Ministry.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Smith, Sr.; mother, Henrietta Smith; brother, Cecil Smith; and sister, Wintres Yvonne Smith.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Rozell Smith; children, Gerlinde Smith and Derrick Smith (LaSaunya); grandchildren, Camilla Nickarz (Stanley) and Alexia Smith; great-grandchild, Stanley James Nickarz; brother, Henry Smith; sisters-in-law, Hattie Wilson (Thomas) of Tampa, FL., Lucille Anderson, of Tampa, FL., and Marrietta Pearson, of South Carolina; nieces, Tabatha Smith, Markita Smith, and Gwen Smith; nephews, Patrick Smith and Henry Smith, Jr.; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, special friends, and cousins.
