Homegoing celebration for Mr. James E. Bowers, Sr., will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at New Bethel Progressive M.B. Church, 3011 E. North Bay St., Pastor Reginal T. Webb, officiating. The internment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. James E. Bowers, Sr. was born to the late Rev. George and Nellie Davis Bowers on October 21, 1930 in Youngstown, Florida. He attended Jackson County Public Schools. He served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. Later, he attended Community College in Hillsborough County. James then met the late Queen E. Bowers (Williams) and the couple joined in holy matrimony in Jackson County, Florida. Together, they had five daughters and one son. The family then relocated to Hillsborough County, Florida. After the conclusion of this union, James joined in union with Alice Q. Washington and together they had one daughter and one son. In the pursuit of following Christ, James joined New Bethel PMB Church, where he was an active and faithful member serving as chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent and various church ministries. Dea. James E. Bowers, Sr. had a successful career with the City of Tampa, Waste Management Department, where he worked until his retirement. Furthering his passion for life, family and community, he established and owned 'Bowers Grocery Mart'. He was preceded in death by his children, Julie F. Bowers, England A. Wilson, Sr., Doris Jackson; grandchildren, Calvin 'Mann' Baldwin, Xzaviera D. Bowers, Jalexia A. McNeal; great-granddaughter, Tyronda S. Sampson; siblings, G.W. Bowers, Jr., Rev. R.J. Bowers, Sr., Louise Bell and Kathaleen Sims. He leaves to cherish his memories with devoted wife, Alice Q. Bowers; brother, Rev. John H. Bowers (Eileen); sister, Lillie M. Bowers Lovett (Frank); beloved children, Nathaniel Brown, Ethel Deloise Bowers, James E. Bowers, Jr, Ret. USN (Anissa Ret. USAF), Sharon E. Bostick, DyeRhonda M. Garrett (Rudy), Joann M. Bowers, Darryl E. Bowers, Sandra Cofer (Sherett) of Augusta, GA, Ronald Hill; adored grandchildren, Shametriss L. Baldwin, Ret, USAF, Zantwann Baldwin, Zerrick Porter, Zavaughnt Porter, Jessika Williams (Lawrence), Beatrice Riveria (Edgar), Juliee Bowers, James Bowers III, Steven Bowers, Monty Bostick, Lasharon Bostick, Devena Mills, Louvena Cromartie, Javar Garrett, Demetrius Bowers, Frank Edwards, Queennae George, Keith Barnum (Doreka), Keasiana Bowers, Darryl Bowers, Jr., Damari Bowers, Nathaniel Brown, Jr., April Blanchett, James Levell, Michael Levell, Camron Wilson, Jacquez Wilson, Khayree Wilson, Demetrius Hill and Fayleen Roper of Tampa; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other relatives, church family and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. The homegoing service is Saturday at New Bethel Progessive MBC at 2pm.
