A homegoing and Memorial celebration for Mr. Jerome C. Smith of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 will be held Saturday, December 17, 2:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Pastor Diane Whitehurst, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in Brooksville, Florida and graduated from Frank W. Springstead High School, but most of his life was spent as a resident of Tampa, Florida. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1982-1987. He worked over 25 years in the Metal Fabricating Industry, and at the time of his death he was an employee at Kloeckner Metals. He enjoyed reading, playing chess, fishing, watching wrestling and football. He was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Charlie (Red) Rogers and daughter, Baby Cassandra. He leaves to cherish his precious memories with his loving and devoted wife, Ramona Thornton Smith; loving mother, Arnetha Smith; step-mother, Annie Lee Rogers; 9 children, Corbin Nottingham, Jerome R. Bass, James Thornton, Raymond Thornton, Philip Thornton, Angela Thornton, David Thornton, Anthony Thornton and Markus Raines; 19 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 6 brothers, Rodney Smith (Andrea), Lee Arthur Smith, Brian Smith, Sr. (Denise), Martin Smith (Quiana), Kevin Smith, Justin Smith and Elder Sonny Gill (Fredricka); sister, Jurleen Jones; aunts, Carolyn Gilmore (John), Willie Jean Roach, Jurleen Jones, Alice Faye and Gladys Wright; uncle, Larry Jones (Hyacinth); special friends, Rusty Williams, Josh Merle, Wayne Galarza, Wayne A., Tom B., Sheldon and Kevin. He also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
