Jimmie Lee Ghant was born on May 30, 1954, in Walterboro, South Carolina to Jimmie Lee Ghant, Sr. and Carrie Mae Ward Calloway. He was an avid music lover and fisherman. He loved being around family and friends, cars, and barbecues.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Lee Ghant, Sr.; mother, Carrie Mae Ward Calloway; and stepson, Tyrone Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, La'Trell Ghant; son, Hugh Thomas (Elizabeth); daughter-in-law, Gabrielle Thomas; grandchildren, Caleb, Tyler, Jonah, Tiana, Emma, Olivia, Chloe, Josiah, and Ella Thomas; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Elijah Thomas; brothers, Edward Ward (Sarah), Rand Mulkey, Johnny Calloway, and Alfonso Lee; aunt, Louise Bledge; uncle, Wilson Bledge; nieces, Tiffany Grant, Latrice Shelton, Teran Johnson, and Alicia Lee; the Everett family and many other dear family and friends.
