Homegoing service for Mr. John Louis Davis, affectionately known as "Sambo" and "Bobbie Blu" of Tampa who passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014, will be held Friday, October 10th, 1:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., Elder J.D. Singletary, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. John Louis was born in Caryville, Florida the 6th son of 7 children to the late Jefferson Davis, Sr. and Rosa Lee Chisholm Davis. John Louis attended the public schools of Washington County. He grew up attending St. Mary AME Church was active in Sunday school and church. During his high school days he was given the nickname "Preacher" by his schoolmates. After graduation from high school he worked at the local mill in Caryville. He married Lucille Baker, to this marriage 3 daughters were born. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1955. After his service in the military he and his family moved to Tampa, Florida. He worked for Cargill Chemical Plant until an accident disabled him in 1958. John Louis had a special gift serving others, as a prayer warrior. He used his gift until his health began to fail. He loved to attend tent services in and around the Tampa Bay area. John Louis was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, 1 daughter and 5 brothers. He is survived by 2 daughters, Roe Baker Davis and Theresa Davis; 1 sister, Rose Esther Stallworth (Willie D.); 5 grandchildren; a beloved sister-in-law, Martha Davis; faithful neighbor Mrs. Queen; a caring cousin, Hiawatha Washington; many beloved nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews; life-long friends; 1 goddaughter and step-daughter; and servant neighbors and friends. The visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Friday for the service.
