John, affectionately nicknamed "Aton", was born on May 7, 1971 to John Mathis Lassiter II and Pearlie Mae Hodges. Some of his favorite interests included football, basketball, and music.

He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Lassiter II; grandmother, Mary Blake; grandfather, Oliver Hodges; grandparents, John and Maryetta Lassiter; uncles, Heamon and Floyd Lassiter; and aunt, Sherry Hodges.

John was followed in death by his brother, Troy D. Lassiter, Sr.

He leaves precious memories with his mother, Pearl Lassiter Golden; brothers, Jason Fletcher (Bonita) and Kevin Lassiter; sister, LaMona Harris; aunts, Patsy Moore and Louise Frazier; uncles, Walter Lassiter, Roy Lassiter, Shedrick Hodges, and Jerry Moody; niece, Aja Lassiter; nephews, Troy D. Lassiter, Jr., Derrion Cook, Damir Morgan, Denerro Morgan, and Trista Lassiter; cousins, Major Arthur Lee Blake (Sharon), Vonet Lassiter, Linda Tillmon, Earmon Frazier II, and a host of many more cousins; and godmother, Mary Dowell.
