Mr. John Van McCray was born December 28, 1945, to Joe McCray, Sr., and Mary Lee Calhoun, in Brooksville, FL. John "Big John" loved to read, watch western movies, playing cards and joking with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe McCray, Sr., and Mary Lee Calhoun; son, John V. McCray, Jr.; sisters, Ruby and Barbara Jean; brothers, Joe, Jr. and Edward "Peewinkle". He leaves to cherish his precious memories: children, Janine "Andrea", Renee, Mark and Michael; grandchildren, Johniyah, Delia, Aleia ,Taisha, Iaisha, Alysha, Danielle, Nigeria, Algeria, Zyana, Jayla, Tesheera, Michael, John III, AJ, Jason, and Richard; brothers, Willie "Catfish" and Benonn (Barbara), sisters, Christine, Mae Lois, Leola and Cheryl; uncle, Doc Choice; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
