Funeral service for Advanced Presiding Elder John Montgomery, Sr. who passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, will be held on Saturday, March 8th, 11:00 a.m. at The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, 10150 Joe Ebert Road, Seffner, Florida, presiding Elder Michael Bobo, supervisor of ceremony with Senior Bishop J. Zerbbabel Terrell, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Advanced Presiding Elder John Montgomery, Sr. was born October 15, 1914 to the late Mamon and Sr. Mother Mattie Montgomery in Hope, Arkansas. He was the second oldest son of seven children. He was preceded in death by siblings, Adv. Sr. Mtr. Alean Kelly, Pre. Eld Fezzel Montgomery, Sr. Mtr. Osceola Garlen, Mtr. Velma Montgomery, Adv. Pres. Eld. Perry Montgomery and other half brothers and sisters. At a very young age John had to take over the family as a big brother and poppa, because his poppa past away. He had taught John many things about farming and share cropping. In 1947, John through his mother met with Christ, in The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob Church and became a devoted member for over 67 years. In 1954, it became a very happy time for him when he married his beautiful little wife, Sr. Mtr. Priscilla R. Montgomery on August 22, 1954 from this union 9 children were born, Salem, Deborah, Dinah, Abigail, John, Joel, Caleb, Mary and Michael he also had one older son before marriage, Charles. He achieved many wonderful works for God, pastoring and assistant pastor for many years in Tampa and Seffner. One of his greatest loves was working the grounds in Seffner, where for many years he grew, produce and took care of the orange grove. During the year of Jubilee (2010) he was blessed to be elevated to the rank of Adv. Pres. Elder by our Supreme Bishop and Spiritual Leader, Father J. Daniel Israel. J.O.G. Poppa/Granpa is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 59 years, Sr. Mtr. Priscilla Montgomery; children, Adv. Pres. Eld. Salem Montgomery, Sr. (Adv. Sr. Mtr. Marilyn), Eldress Deborah Collins (Elder Naamon), St. Dinah Montgomery, Abigail P. Montgomery, Bro. John Montgomery, Jr., Joel Montgomery, Elder Caleb I. Montgomery (Eldress Jency), Eldress Mary E. Mitchell (Pres. Eld Azariah), Pres. Eld. Michael I. Montgomery (Mtr. Evangeline); one sibling, Bro. Charles Montgomery; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. "Poppa you have fought a good fight and finished your course." The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
