Obituary

Homegoing services for Deacon John Henry Stephen of Tampa, who passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014, will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 11:00 a.m. at New Bethel Progressive M.B. Church, 3011 E. North Bay Street, Rev. Reginal T. Webb, pastor officiating. The entombment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. John Henry was born December 18, 1921 in Dawson, Georgia to the late Willie Stephen and Carrie Griffin. He loved to play dominoes and watching baseball. He worked for Badcock Furniture Company for over 10 years and was employed with Walmart as a greeter. He was a member of New Bethel PMB church where he served as a deacon, Mighty Men's Choir member and the Brotherhood Ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lucy Stephen-Hines, niece, Elvira Alston, wife of 52 years, Robbie Stephen, daughter, Gloria Stephen and son-in-law, Jerry Cypress. He leaves to cherish his loving memories with daughters, Shelah Watkins of Tampa and Belenda Cypress of Davenport, Florida; 6 grandchildren, Noella West (James), Stephanie Hamilton (Shaun) all of Tampa, Samantha Edmonds (Anthony) of Davenport, Florida, Michael Harvey (Marilynn) of Lakeland, Shellina Watkins (Jerome) of Tampa and Anna Miles of San Antonio, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; 1 great nieces, Lisa Alston, LaGrange, Georgia; cousins, Callie Crawford, Tampa; the New Bethel PMG family; and a host of other sorrowing friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, October 24th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service.
