Homegoing services for Deacon Johnnie Best of Tampa who died peacefully on November 24, 2012, will be held on Saturday, December 1st, 11:00 a.m., 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th Street, Rev. Dr. Thomas Scott, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Johnnie Best was born in Tampa, the son of Charlie and Ella Best who preceded him in death. He attended schools in the School District of Hillsborough County. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army and was a Korea War veteran. He retired from Portland Cement Co. Johnnie was a member of the 34th Street Church of God for 32 years and a proud member of the Deacon Board 20 years and also member of the Usher Board. He was also preceded in death by; son Virle Best; sister; Mary Lou Best; brothers; Kelly Best, Sr., Nathan Best Sr., Joseph Best, Sr. and James Best. He is survived by his wife Vivian (Carolyn) Best; four sons; Johnnie Best, Jr., Vincent Best, Sr., Johann Best, Sr. and Giovanni Best; One "devoted" daughter, Darlene Best-Sampson (Leroy); two step-daughters; Latanya O'keke (Mike) and Johnnetha Harper; twenty-five grandchildren; Tiesha Wallace, Iesha Slaughter, J'air McCarty, Mariana Coleman, Malik Sampson, Sa'mya Sampson, Jekiea Best, Ja'leyiah Best, Jolesha Best, Johann Best, Jr., Shardaye Best, Tiffany Best, Roteasha Best, ShaQella Best,Vincent Peak, India Best, Jason Rutherford, Shantel Harper, Daquan Washington, Heaven Eubanks, Jasmine Eubanks, Dontae Eubanks, Vernon Colvert, Coniethia Eleon, and Khlaysha Allen; three great-grandchildren, Omarie Bowers, Carliea Brown and Michael Best; one brother, David Best (Deannie); three sisters, Charlie Mae Mathis, Doris Tolliver, Cleveland, Ohio and Vernell Clovesko (Dr. Joseph), Pepper Pike, Ohio; four sisters-in-law; Mary Best, Ernestine Best and Lula Best of Edgefield, SC and Lois Green (Billy); one brother-in-law, Willie Kneece; thirteen nieces; "devoted and favorite" Lyndia Mathis-Hills (Audley), Olivian Mathis, Atlanta, GA, Evangelist Kathleen Ransom, Betty Gaines (Dave), Jewell Best-Jordan (Henry), Gwen Damon (Willie), Wendy Tolliver, Cleveland, OH, Ellen Tolliver, Cleveland, OH, Dr. Bonita Best-Coppedge (Keith) Washington, DC, Davina Best, Ursula Best, Carrie Best (Lanier), Candice Best, all of Edgefield, SC; ten nephews, Dan Mathis Jr.(Salithia), Lawrence Mathis, Sr.(Charlotte), Lester Best (Yolanda), Nathan Best, Jr., Kelly Best, Jr. (Ann), Kyle Best, Rashad Saleem (Debbie), Cleveland, OH, Tray Best, Bryan Best, and Brandon Best all of Edgefield, SC, and Joseph Best, Jr. (Karlicha) of Columbus, SC; special friends, Christine Stephens, Roscoe Green, Leroy Mitchell and Bernard Mitchell; special great nieces, Tolana Mathis and Wankita Mathis-Hardrick and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends. The family is especially grateful to Lyndia Mathis-Hills for her years of care and devotion to Johnnie. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, November 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
