Jose, affectionately "Papo" was born on November 6, 1948, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, to Justo and Evangelista Rivera. He enjoyed socializing, dancing, and hosting get-togethers. He was always listening to his favorite music. He loved to travel and enjoyed spending time in his garden planting flowers, herbs, and fruits. He had a loud laugh that filled up the whole room. He was someone who enjoyed being around a lot of people and making everyone laugh. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Justo and Evangelista Rivera.

He leaves precious memories with his children, Jensen, Jeannette, Jeffrey, and Jennifer; grandchildren; Eva, Orion, and Quinn; brother, Jorge; sisters, Margarita and Ida; nephews, Tito, Xavi, Gamy, and Tony; nieces, Marianne, Suleika, and Ida; special friends, Julian and Tauni Torres family, Pedro and Estella Viera family, Javier Gomez and family, Francisco and Isabel Berroa family, and Carmen "Cuca" Lopez.
