Homegoing service for Mr. Joseph Barr, Jr. of Tampa, who passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, will be held Saturday, March 22nd, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2504 E. Chipco St., Rev. Bartholomew Banks, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Joseph Barr, Jr. was born May 26, 1942 to the late Joseph Barr, Sr. and Emma Lott Barr in Tampa, Florida. Joseph attended the schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Blake High School, class of 1962. He loved teaching the Word of God, as well as a lover of music and sports, especially football. Joseph was a well known Barber and Tailor in the East Tampa community for many years. He was an active deacon and Sunday school teacher of the deacon class at St. John Progressive M.B. Church, and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) 1339. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Willie Lee Davis and Isaac Calvin Barr and sister, Ella Mae Davis. He leaves to cherish fond memories with his special adoptive mother, Camina Hills; devoted wife of 43 years, Sandra Lester Barr; children, Joseph Barr III (Shalanda), Erick Barr, Sr., Erika Barr, Yvonne Smalley-Diallo, Vondalyn Allen and Leighton Carter; grandchildren, Emauri Barr, Erick Barr, Jr., Joseph Barr IV, Destiny Barr, Jaadyn Barr, Euriel Culver, Euriah Culver, Madysen Culver, Morgan Culver London Culver, Tristen Barr, Mark Lewis, Johnathan Alexander, Alexis Allen; great grandchildren, Chase Alexander and Aniyah Lewis; father-in-law, Jack Lester, Sr., adoptive brother, Tommy Hills; brothers-in-law, Jack Lester, Jr. (Carol), Rev. Dr. Curtis Lester (Sheila) and Johnny Lester; sisters-in-law, Edith Davis and Wynell Mitchell (John); nieces, Barbara Rannie, Diane Dantley, Elaine Murphy, Edith Dickson (Berdner) and Mildred Murphy; nephews, Alfonso Davis (Blondie), Willie Davis, Freddie Davis (Angela), Jimaine Davis, Johnnie Davis (Marsha), Frankie Davis (Pam) and Jessie Davis; and special friends, Kesha Wiggins (daughter), Deacon Delatorro McNeal, Sr., Rev. Belinda Williams and Pastor Anna Welch; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at St. John Progressive M.B. Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service on Saturday.
