The Celebration of the Life of Mr. Joseph Brown, who quietly transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, November 18, 2013, will be held on Saturday, November 30, 11:00 a.m., First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29 Street, Rev. Evan Burrows, Pastor/Officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Joseph Brown was born in Marmango County, Alabama on February 19, 1924. He was the oldest child of the late John Oscar Brown and Leona Holt Brown. He attended the public Schools of Marmango County. He served in the United States Army where his last active duty was at MacDill AF Base. After which, he made Tampa his home. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of College Hill where he served on the Usher Board until his health began to fail. He retired from Commercial Metal Steel Company after 30 years of service. He worked as custodian at St. Peter Claver Catholic School for 3 years. After 10 years, he retired a second time as a school crossing guard for Hillsborough County School District. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary E. Smith, and brothers: Johnny, Sidney, Roosevelt, Winfield, William and Richard A. Brown. Those left to cherish his memories are a beloved wife, Lillian Williams Brown; Sons: Harold E. Williams and Joseph Brown (Margaret) of Detroit, Michigan; Daughters: Birdie Williams Underwood, Betoria Williams Watson and Loretta Foutz of Detroit, Michigan; Sister: Inez Petty of Jamaica Queens, NY; Brothers: Elijah and Major Brown of Birmingham, Alabama; Sisters-in-Law: Leila Aldridge and Estella Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Raquel L. Watson, Stacey L. Brown, Phillip J. Yeager; Nieces: Shirley Speights, Josephine and Betty Brim, Leona James and Cora George; Nephews: Walter Brim and Harvey Smith; godchildren: Mildred Harvey, Barbara Murphy, Carrie Jackson and Keith Murphy; Caregiver: Jean Coleman; a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, November 29, from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
