Memorial service for Mr. Joseph Robert Dasher, Jr. who passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 will be held Saturday, May 30th, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. The interment will follow. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Robert Dasher Sr. and mother, Erma Domingo Adams. Joseph was born in Tampa, FL on June 20, 1942 to Joseph Dasher, Sr. and Erma Nelson. He was raised in Tampa and attended Middleton Senior High School. He then attended Gibbs Junior College in St. Petersburg, FL. As a young adult, he left the bay area to attend Florida A&M University. While earning his Bachelors of Science Degree in Behavioral Science, he met and married his first wife, Anna Westmore, and welcomed his son, Joseph, III. After college, he went to work as a counselor at the Florida School for Boys. Later, he relocated to Miami, FL where he owned and operated a bail bondsman business. He also worked as a security consultant and for the Florida Coast Guard as an aircraft pilot and ship captain. Joseph was a believer in gaining knowledge; so throughout his post graduate years he pursued and acquired several degrees. He never stopped learning. In 1970, he met the love of his life, Sonia "MaryJo" O'Connor, in Jamaica. Together, they returned to Miami, where he acquired a yacht. The two lived on the Legacy for several years before deciding to pursue creative endeavors throughout the U.S. and in other parts of the world. In the early eighties, they married and settled in Tampa, FL with their twin daughters, Solitaire and Crystale. Joseph had a love affair with the freedom he found in flying high among the clouds and sailing through the ocean. As such, he had a passion for exploring the world, yachts and airplanes. He also enjoyed cinematography, music, marksmanship, and simply spending time with his family. On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, Joseph quietly and peacefully slipped into eternity into the presence of God. Joseph leaves to cherish his memories with his wife, Sonia Dasher; children, Joseph Dasher III and twin daughters, Solitaire Dasher-Smiley and Crystale Alston; grandchildren, Christopher Hawkins, Jr., Kennedy Alston, Telaiyah Smiley, Kevin Alston Jr. and Taylor Alston; son-in-laws, Jeffrey Smiley and Kevin Alston Sr., nieces, Selena Williams, Tenisha Rigby, LaToya Waymon, Lorraine Adams, nephews, and a host of cousins, friends and acquaintances. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
