Obituary

A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Joseph McBride of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 a private service will beheld on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Elder Gerald Eugene Green, Sr. The interment will be held in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.

Joseph McBride made his transition in the early morning hours on Saturday, September 12, 2020 to reunion with the ancestors and dear mother, Gladys McBride. A private family service will be held on September 30, 2020 at the Aikens Funeral home Chapel, his interment will be at Bushnell National Cemetery. Joe, as he was affectionately known, was born in Tampa, FL on January 18, 1948 to the union of Gladys Bailey McBride and Sidney McBride. He was the third of ten children. He attended Hillsborough County schools: Lomax, Booker T. Washington, Howard W. Blake and graduated from Middleton High School in 1967. In addition to his debonair and determined persona, Joe was a stellar track athlete earning several college and university scholarships for his efforts. Unfortunately, he was unable to avail himself of the scholarship offers due to being drafted into the US Army in the immediate summer after graduating high school. Near the end of his valiant tour of duty War with the 126 Infantry in the Vietnam War, Joe sustained complex emotional and psychological trauma and physical injuries. In 1968, Joseph was honored with Purple Heart in recognition of his service to the nation.

He was preceded in death by, his mother Gladys R. Bailey McBride; threebrothers, Nathaniel Bailey, Michael McBride, and Walter Randolph; two sisters, Betty Bailey and Bertha Randolph; nephew Harvey Bailey.

Joe leaves fond and cherish memories: one sister, Deborah McBride Mingo (Goldie), three brothers, Rudolph McBride, Edgar Randolph, Jr., (Beverly), and Anthony McBride; nephews, Walter C. Bailey, Walter Pickens Randolph, Chavez Pownell Sr., Damien Pendleton (Rola), Rodney Reed, Chavez L. Pownell Jr., Jerell Cargill, Avant Pownell, Khyree Baines, DeShaun G. Wade, Oscar Figueroa, Giovanni Figueroa, and Dylan I. Wade; nieces, Joanne Bailey, Tamika M. McBride, Kinyada Morgan, Tasha N. Mingo (Lisa), Lily M. McBride, DeVonnia C. Mingo, Ashanti I. McBride, Ashley N. McBride, Botavia Pownell, Kiani J. Mullins, DyQueshia Pownell, Nadia Morgan, Roberta Morgan and Eyanna McBride; cousins, Peter Britt, Jerome Alexander, Carolyn Smith, Patricia Alexander, Cynthia Washington, Cassandra Hall (Victor,) Ronald Reynolds (Regina), Carolyn Stevenson and Nitika Kilpatrick (Timothy);

Special friends, Lawrence Curtis and Clydell Blocker; and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors, too numerous to mention but not forgotten. Visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 29, 2020from 4-6PM. There will be private family service at 10am at Aikens Funeral Home.
