A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Julia Mae Douglas of Tampa, Florida of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 will be held on Saturday, May 22nd, 4:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Min. Stanley Harris, officiating.
Our songbird has flown away to join Heaven's Praise Team where she can sing without ceasing. Mrs. Julia Mae Young Douglas the oldest of 13 children was born April 8, 1944 to the late Oscar L. Young, Sr. and Minnie L. Young in Byronville, Georgia. She relocated to Tampa with her family in 1947 attended the schools of Hillsborough County graduating from Middleton High School class of 1962. Julia was a faithful member of Gospel Assembly of Central Florida for over 20 years. She was a praise and worship Leader and Served other areas of ministry as needed. She was a former employee of the University of South Florida Police Department and worked 28 years before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Douglas; her parents, Deacon Oscar, Sr. and Minnie Young; sister, Linda Clay; brothers, Alvin Young, Sr. and Willie Fred Young; grandparents, Jodie and Julia Trice, Felton and Alverna Young and great-grandchild, Teyana Griffin. She leaves her fond memories with her 3 devoted children, Edwina Griffin (Shirley), Julnita Griffin and Andrea Upshur (Stephen); 8 grandchildren, Shawanita Griffin, Terrance Griffin (to be Ireana), Romondo Gibson, Ricardo Griffin, Quandis Bogan (Eric), Kandiss Tofan (Iurie), Stephen Upshur, Jr. and Justin Upshur; 10 great-grandchildren, Brandee Griffin, Jalissa Griffin, Kalyela Durham, Shaniya Griffin, Tameya Griffin, Ricardo Griffin, Jr., Jovahn Griffin, Bryce Lane, Ameer Bogan and Andre Brown; 1 great-grandchild, Armani Guice; 9 siblings, Oscar Young, Jr. (Juanita), Rudolph Young (Skyra), Sylvester Young (Rose), Corliss Turner (Donald), Derrick Young (Aquan), Minerva Morgan, Jacqueline Akperwero (Michael), Janet Anderson (Melvin) and Vernon Young (Romaine); sisters-in-law, Peggy Young and Gwendolyn Young; 4 aunts; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines.
