Homegoing services for Sister Karen Elizabeth Blair-Clay of Tampa, who passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011, will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 12:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, with Minister Clarence E. Hammonds, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Sister Karen was born on August 30, 1954 to Mr. John Clarence Blair and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Jennings) Seay. Sister Karen attended public schools in Hillsborough County and was a graduate of Middleton High School class of 1972. She was a member of the Drill Team. Sister Karen was employed by IBM where she served as a Special Loss Litigator. She was a faithful member and Servant of the Lord at Grace Lutheran Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. She served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher for Middle School age children under the watchful eye of Pastor Michael Frye. Sister Karen also served as a G.A.L.; with the Guardian Ad Litem program where part of her role was to protect and promote the best interests of children. For years, Sister Karen was a member of the MLK Jr. Holiday Celebration Committee, Inc. in Raleigh. She was also an avid reader and active member of the Knowledge Awareness Book Club. Sister Karen is lovingly missed by her husband, Darrell Clay; her daughter Blair Jennine Clay and her son, Jonathan Lawrence Clay; 4 sisters, Ms. Sherna Blair Rich of Tampa, Ms. Lori Bethel of Tampa, Mrs. Fatima M. Faulk of Georgia, Ms. Kahdijah M. Seay of Tampa; 2 brothers, Mr. Alan McCloud of North Carolina and Mr. Marlow Blair (Linda) of Tampa; 2 aunts, Mrs. Barbara Jennings Murphy of Tampa, Mrs. Gloria Jennings Blount (Robert); 1 uncle, Mr. Edward Jennings, Sr. (Betty); 5 nieces; NyJer Rich, Nicole Faulk, Alexis Faulk, Johnecia Blue, Kalliyah Blue; 8 nephews, John Seay, Charles Faulk Jr., Marquis Faulk, Michael Faulk, William Bethel III, Rodney Jones Jr. ,John Blue IV, Brandon Seay; 2 grand nephews, Rodney Jones III, Jayden Faulk; 1 grandniece, Rohana Jones; and a host of cousins, co-workers and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Chapel for the service.
