Kenyetta "Keke/Kenny"
Brookins
June 15, 2001 – March 29, 2025
With hearts full of love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Kenyetta Brookins—known affectionately to all as "Kenny/ Keke"—who left this world far too soon, at the age of 23. Kenyetta was born on June 15, 2001, to Greene Brookins and Luvenia Mitchell. Kenny brought bright and beautiful energy into the world from the very beginning. She lived with a wild and free spirit, lighting up every room with her laughter, her love, and her vibrant presence. She loved watching movies, going out to eat, and dancing although she had no rhythm. Kenny was the kind of person who made friends feel like family and family feel like home. She had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued—whether through her sense of humor, her kindness, or her ability to simply sit and be present. She lived her life surrounded by those she loved most and found joy in the simple things: deep conversations, spontaneous adventures, and every moment shared with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, D. Mitchell and E. Brookins; and cousins, T. Ammons, G. Lucas, and J. Pinner.
Kenny leaves behind a wide circle of people who loved her dearly, including her parents, Greene (Layonda) Brookins, and Luvenia (Shawn) Coakley King; significant other, Tierra Bruton; daughter, Te'caria Bruton; brothers, Juvontae Johnson, Lil' Greene Brookins, Artavius Brookins, and Mario Coakley, Genisha Brookins, Emerald Brookins, Nyvia Brookins, Mariyanna Coakley, and Hailey Roberts; aunts, Cynthia (Robert) Taylor, Jennifer (Jerrell) Ammons, Jasmin Brookins, Cynthia Mitchell, Candis (James) Williams, Pamela Grace, Patrice Grace, Regina (Herbert) Bowers, Andrea Burney, Telica Mitchell, and Davon Mitchell; uncles, Bobby (Julia) Jackson, Reginald (Adrian) Houston, Gregory (Louise) Mcdowell, Earl Grace, Siegfried Grace, Anthony Mitchell, James Mcdowell, and Demetrius (Christine) Hamilton; nieces, Pryn'cess McNeil, Jae'marie Johnson, and Kehlani Lovett; nephews, August Brown and Aidyn Thornton; cousins, Mikayla Mcginnins, Jamari Jackson, Tiana Jackson, Smith, Williams, Mcbride, Baker, Brown, Brookins, Ammons, Wright, Mitchell; bestfriend, Chendra Griffith; and a host of other family members; godparents, Donny and Dawn Roberts; and godson, Ja'yceon Murray. Though her time here was short, her impact was profound. She will be remembered not only for the way she lived but for the love she gave so freely. Her spirit, her smile, and her laughter will echo in our hearts forever. "Fly free, Kenny. You will always be loved. You will always be missed. And you will never be forgotten."
