Kevin Coulon,
Sr.
March 26, 2024
Kevin grew up in New Orleans, LA and was educated in Orleans Parish Public Schools. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School, home of the Green Hornets, in 1981. Kevin served in the United States Army from 1981-1984. He was stationed in Colorado. Kevin returned home to marry his classmate and best friend, Dellareese, in April 1982. For a short while, Della relocated to be with Kevin in Colorado. While there, God blessed them with a beautiful baby girl, Kelley, the following year. After returning home, they were blessed with a son, Kevin Jr., in 1988. Once honorably discharged, Kevin settled into family life back in New Orleans and obtained a job in downtown New Orleans at the famous Buster Holmes Southern Restaurant. This began a long, reputable career in multiple levels of employment in food service and retail. In 1989, Kevin was ordained as a minister at Nazareth Church of God in Christ by the Pastor, Bishop Samuel L. Walker, Sr. Soon after his ordination he joined Heritage Bible Church in Terrytown, LA. Under Pastor Greg Durrells teaching and during his own personal study, Kevins knowledge and understanding of Gods word deepened tremendously.
In 1999, both Kevin and Della were offered job opportunities in the Tampa Bay area. After seeking Gods guidance, the family relocated. Once in Florida, Kevin and his family attended Calvary Community Church of Tampa in October 1999under the leadership of Pastor Hank Lindstrom. Kevin was passionate about bringing the message of salvation to everyone. Before his illness, you could find Kevin, on any given night having Bible Study at the local Village Inn with anyone who cared to join them. This was never an intentional thing. Kevin and his friend, Bruce Saul would go to eat, and sometimes someone would overhear them talking about the Lord. Then, a customer or waitress would inquire about the conversation. Other times, God showed Kevin who needed to hear a word from the Lord. Kevin understood that he church is not just a building. WE ARE THELIVING CHURCH according to 1 Corinthians 3:16. Ministry takes place outside of the 4 walls and the pulpit of the sanctuary just as well as inside. Kevin lived Matthew chapter 6. He didnt seek earthly approval or praises. Kevin ministered to the homeless and prayed with the lost. He shared his love of Gods word with his grandchildren and had individual bible studies with some of them. The remember this. Kevin was the helper in his family. When someone was in distress, Kevin was there, even when he knew the person could not or simply would not return that same level of generosity to his household when it was needed. He helped anyway. He gave anyway. Until his health would not allow him to give anymore. God whispered, "Your assignment is complete. Come home to be with me."
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Shirley Jean Coulon, and his sister, Kimichele Coulon Augustin.
Kevin leaves to mourn his death, but celebrate his life, his wife and best friend of 41 1/2 years, Dellareese Coulon; 2 children, Kelley Coulon and Kevin Coulon, Jr. (Tampa, FL); 1 sister, Cynthia Coulon Landry (New Orleans, LA); 7 grandchildren; 3 special sisters-in-law; brother-in-law, Rev. Samuel Mason, Sr. (Salita Algere-Mason); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
