Homegoing services for Mr. Leroy S. Aikens of Tampa who passed away, Monday July 6, 2015, will be held on Saturday, July 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Minister Kevin Dennie, officiating. The interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida on Monday, July 20, 2015. Leroy was born May 27, 1944 in Tampa, Florida to the late Dexter and Liller Mae Aikens. Leroy was a graduate of Middleton Senior High School, class of 1963. He obtained an Associate of Arts degree in California. Leroy retired with an honorable discharge from United States Navy, where he served his country as an air traffic controller. He was an avid reader and loved fishing as a hobby. While he was introvert he enjoyed spending time with his selected friends. He was very generous with his neighbors of the River Pines Apartment Community, they considered him a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Russell, Dorothy, Lewis, Elizabeth Ann and Norwell Aikens; uncle, Joseph Aikens, aunt, Doris J. Hanley; nieces, Rachel Aikens and Diana Aikens and nephew, Russell Aikens, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Tonya "Honey" Aikens and Arjelyia "GiGi" Aikens; son, Randy T. Aikens; grandchildren, Shayna Mora, Keith Madison, Ardrian Lasing II, Daajzia Aikens, Charles Moore III and Miranda J. Aikens; great grandchildren, Christopher, Josiah, Cameron and Lola Mora and Audrey, Aaliyah and Zoe Lasing; brothers, Thomas Aikens (Yvonne), Edward Caris Aikens, Sr., Henry E. Aikens, Charlie L. Aikens and Herman L. Tim; sisters, Betty J. Aikens, Shirley M. "Shay" Aiken, and Gwendolyn Tim Powell; former wife, Constance Aikens; nieces, Vivian Aikens Linero, Rosa Aikens, Benita G. Jenkins, Doris J. Aikens, Sonja Aikens, Ranelda Spence, LaCheryl Aikens, Nicole Aikens, Ebone Aikens, Emani Aikens, Latasha Aikens, Monique Powell-Davis and Cicely Powell; nephews, Daryl Aikens (Maxine), Teryl Aikens (Rosalinde), Barry L. Aikens (Cheryl), Christopher Aikens, Adrian Aikens (Tressa), Charlie Aikens, Jr., Christopher Garcia and Edward Caris Aikens, Jr.; cousins, Virgie Nell Miles and family; Emma Cavin and family; and a host of other cousins, family members and sorrowing friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, July 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
