Obituary

A Homegoing Memorial Service for Mrs. Lizzie L. Williams Bowden, will be held on Sunday, January 6th, 3:00 p.m. at Tampa Unity Church, 3302 W. Horatio St., Rev. M. Allen Moss and Rev. Debbie Moss, pastors. On February 2, 1929, Lizzie L. Williams was born to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Christine Williams in Macon, Georgia. She received her High School education from Middleton Senior High and furthered her education at Florida A & M University where she received her degree in Home Economics with a minor in Elementary Education. Utilizing her Home Economics education she started her career as a Dietary Director at Dunbar Elementary School. Within a few years she pursued her minor in education which later led to her teaching career. She began teaching at Dunbar Elementary and after 30 years of teaching in the Hillsborough County School System she retired in 1989 from Forest Hills Elementary. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and continued her spiritual journey at Tampa Unity Church. After her retirement she took on her full-time entrepreneurship with Bowden's Community Store on 40th and Osborne Ave in East Tampa. After the closing of the Bowden store she enjoyed being the hostess and photographer at Jolly's Jazz-Z and then Bowden 2nd Half Side Effect. During her free time she stayed actively exercising by walking at MacFarlane Park and attending activities regularly at Barksdale Senior Center and the YMCA. Ms. Lizzie Williams met and married Mr. Tom Bowden and three children were born to this union. After 83 years here on earth she was called home on December 28, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Christine Williams, husband, Tom Bowden, son Timothy Bowden, brother, Joseph Williams; great niece, Cynthia Saltmarsh, and best-friend, Mrs. Dorothy C. York. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Cynthia E. Bowden; son, Thomas L. Bowden and wife, Geraldine Harris-Bowden; brother, Isiah Williams and wife, Carol Williams of Trenton, New Jersey; granddaughters, Selena C.B. Lemons and husband, Willie Lemons Jr., Thomasina Y. Bowden and Acacia K. Bowden; great-grandchildren, Zachary Lemons, ZaKariah Lemons, Zarius Lemons and Darius Haliburton Jr.; niece, Joann Saltmarsh and husband, Gerrard of Birmingham, Alabama; great-niece, Regina Williams of Birmingham, Alabama; nephews, Craig Williams of Pennsylvania, Bobby Bowden, Freddie Bowden and Anthony Bowden; special daughters, Retha S. Hobbs and husband, Hershey Hobbs, Monique Brown, Connie L. Hill (Maya and Erica), and Cynthia M. Brady; special sons, Lee A. Rainey, Curtis Jackson, Riley N. Mitchell and Lincoln Brown; special grandchildren, Brianna Evans, Brian Evans, Paul Brown Jr., Juwuan Brown and Roland Fletcher; special friends, Rose Hartsfield, Chester White, Brenda Capers, Ricki, Willie C. Robinson, Edward Walker and a host of family, friends, acquaintances and former students throughout the neighborhood, community, Barksdale Center and Tampa Unity Church who she dearly loved and appreciated. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to her favorite organization the O550 Community Involvement Committee.
