Lorenzo "Mickey" was born in Tampa, Florida. He attended the schools of Hillsborough County. He retired from Hillsborough County Courthouse serving 42 years retiring in May 2001. He was a member of Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church serving as a Deacon; President-Laymen Ministry, National Primitive Baptist Convention, Inc., USA; Vice-President-Laymen Ministry, Florida State Primitive Baptist Convention; President-Laymen Ministry, South Florida Progressive Primitive Baptist, District Association, Inc.; and President Emeritus-Union #2 District Laymen. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elouise James and father, Thomas L. Battles, Sr., grandparents, Randolph and Lila Dunlap and 2 sisters, Maryanne Dunlap and Patricia Love. He is survived by his children, Sharon Thompson, Tonyata Thompson and Atty. Frank De la Grana and wife, Christina and family; grandchild, Kennedy Green; brothers Thomas L. Battles, Jr. and wife, Geraldine of Miami, Florida, and Isaac R. Battles of Orlando, Florida; sister Jackie Harrelson, Tampa, Florida; nephew, Andre Scott and wife, DaTonya; a host of nieces and other nephews; cousins, Hortense Lampkins and family, Tampa, Florida, Dorothy Thomas and family, Tampa, Florida, and Alfred and Joyce Rome and family, Winter Haven, Florida; goddaughter, Rene Hutcherson, Houston, Texas;;special friends, the Judges of Hillsborough County, State Attorney Mark Ober of Hillsborough County, Judge Dennis Alvarez, Deacon Kreg Brown and wife, Connie, Eldis Mitchell and family Mother Helen Woody, Dr. Thomas W. Samuels, E. N. Cussaux, Dee Williams, Martha Thompson, Phyllis Lawrence and family, Yvonne Aikens and family, Barbara Gay and family, Mother Pat Davis and family, Edith Sheppard and family, Thelma Green and family, Betty Kinsey and family, Willie Robinson, Jr., Lillian Hodges and family, the Ball's family, the Church family, Evergreen Neal and Elder W.J. Williams. The viewing will be held at Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church from 5-8 p.m. on Friday evening. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Church on Saturday.
