A Homegoing Celebration for Sergeant Lorenzo Newson, who passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, will be held on Saturday, December 18th, 11:00 a.m., at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Rev. Dr. James Gallon, Pastor of Christian Praise & Worship, officiating with eulogist, Rev. Michael Neely, pastor of New Millennium Community Church. The interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.

Lorenzo was born in Florida and a resident of Tampa for over 40 years. He was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County, then went on to serve in the United States Army and retired as honorably discharged. He was employed with Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (H.A.R.T.) for 15 years. He was a faithful servant of God and he loved helping others. Lorenzo also enjoyed bowling, cooking, and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Creola Newson and Warren Newson; beloved sister, Constance Newson; beloved niece, Petra Newson; and beloved stepfather, John Blue. He leaves to cherish his life and precious memories as a devoted father of Lauryn Newson. Sgt. Newson also leaves behind, his significant other, Vinda Woodson; devoted sisters, Margaret Newson (Derwin), Ada McKenzie (Damon), and Wanda Blue; devoted brothers, Michael Newson Sr., and Larry Blue; aunt, Barbara Jean Baker; uncle, James Blue; nieces, Angela Newson (Jerold), Trina Johnson, Terri Knight and Jamedra McKenzie; nephews, Michael Newson Jr., Robert Leonard, Mario Newson, Ryan Newson, Antonio Newson (Sonia), and Marquez Newson; cousins, Regina Johnson, Sheila Mack, and Reginald Logan; grand nephews, Deonquez Muldrow and Gerald Pattmon; grand nieces, Petra Pattmon, Jade and Jada Newson, and Nola Richards Waldron; great grandnephew, Tylin Williams; great grandnieces, Dakota Sheppard and Alani Newson; other loved ones, Stoney Woodson Jr. (Erica), Shannon Woodson (Antron), Shantevia Woodson (Adarius), Nevah Burse, Messiah Burse, Arabella Loggins, Douglas Miller, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, December 17th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday for the service. We are following CDC guidelines.
