Luis Alexander Guevara, known as "El Potro", was born on February 6, 2006, in Tinaco, Estado Cojedes, Venezuela. Luis started playing baseball at a very young age. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday he would travel an hour and twenty minutes to a baseball school and train all day long. A talented switch-hitter with exceptional bat-to-ball skills and a consistent swing from both sides of the plate, Guevara quickly emerged as one of the top Venezuelan prospects in the 2022–23 international signing class. People would come to see Luis play. His friends would tell you that despite the attention, he approached each practice unfazed. Knowing that his friends at the baseball school were nervous about being scouted, he would dance, tell jokes, talk, about anything other than the scouts, to help distract his teammates.

Outside of baseball, Luis gave back to the community that raised him any chance he got. He would hand food out to the people of Tinaco and giving to the children. Luis dreamed big, dreamed of leaving Tinaco and coming to America to play for the big leagues and in 2023, he did. Signed by the Baltimore Orioles, Guevara began his professional journey in the Dominican Summer League (DSL), where he spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons developing with the DSL Orioles. His performance earned him a promotion to U.S.-based leagues in 2025, marking his first season in U.S. professional baseball. That year, he played 30 games across three levels: 24 games with Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds, 4 games with the Florida Complex League (FCL) Orioles, and 2 games with Double-A Chesapeake Baysox.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luis Guevara, Sr.

He leaves cherished memories to his mother, Yamilay Aponte; brothers, Luis Eduardo Guevara, Luis Ibrahim Guevara, and Luis Felipe Guevara; sisters, Egilda María Guevara; cousins, Virginia Coromoto Aponte; grandmother, Maria Silvia Ochoa de Aponte; stepfather, Elvis José De Leones; and very special friends, Carlos Villegas, Luis Villegas, and María Villegas. May we never forget his kind heart, giving manner, and his extraordinary talent and unwavering passion for the game of baseball.
