Obituary

Homegoing celebration for Lynda Vaniece Reeves of Seattle, Washington who passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015, 11:00 a.m., at Mayberry Cemetery, Seffner, Florida, Father Hugh Chikawe, officiating. Lynda Vaniece Reeves was born February 17, 1964, at the Fort Campbell Army Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky (a certified 101st Airborne Army Brat). She was premature, and critically ill, due to multiple birth defects. She was not expected to survive for 24 hours. Her cute little face revealed a strong, independent personality, punctuated by a pouting lower lip. That newborn show of strength was an admirable highlight of her entire life, especially her last 40 days. Lynda entered school at Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbus, Georgia in 1969. With military moves, she attended Sunshine School, in San Francisco, California. In Tacoma, WA, she spent nine years in the Clover Park School District, attending, Custer Elementary School, Iva Alice Mann Jr. High, Hudtloff Jr. High, and graduating from Lakes High School in the class of 1982. She went on to attend Fort Steilacoom Community College - currently named Pierce College - earning credits just shy of an Associate of Arts degree. Lynda's school life was very active and distinguished. She successfully negotiated long hallways on crutches as part of the general school population, sang in the Jazz Choir, the Lakes High Choir, and was a member of the African American Club. She worked in the School Library. Her rhythm and dancing at the Tolos and Senior Prom was the talk of her classmates, winning her much admiration. She also volunteered with the Community Health Care Delivery System, receiving an award of appreciation. Though in a wheelchair, Lynda liked traveling. In the last five years she travelled to Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, Yellowstone National Park, San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Alaska. Her last trip was in September 2014 to Las Vegas, to celebrate her sister's birthday. Those left with cherished memories and love for Lynda are her parents Florence Reeves, Lucius and (Gail) Reeves, her only sister Lydia Reeves, Aunts Diane Moore and Alice Fincher, Uncle Ben H.
