Obituary

A Celebration of Life Graveside service for Mrs. Mae J. Payne, who transitioned to be with the Lord on October 5, 2021, will be held on Friday, October 15th, at Orange Hill Cemetery, 4900 E. Chelsea St., Rev. Dr. Patricia Hauser, officiating.

Mother Mae was born January 5, 1939, in Americus, Georgia, to Isom and Essie Tolbert. She attended and graduated from the Hillsborough County School District. She was a member of Gods Side Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Mae spent her life taking care of her family; she was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She had a big heart and enjoyed helping people who came to her in need, no matter what the issue. She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Willie Green; and uncle, Willie Iverson. She leaves precious memories with: six sons, Larry Payne, John Payne (Katrina), Dwight Payne (Tonja), Tony Payne, Anthony Payne, Sr., Antonio Payne (Barbara); four daughters, Connie Braswell, Denise Sherrod (Tony), Tangala Williams (Joseph), Tracy King (Dwaine); grandchildren, Jamaar Braswell (Vernet), Natarsha Jackson (Donald), Karmen Payne, Shanicia Williams, Dwanda Payne, Ashia Edwards, Darryl Edwards (Shakala), Dwight Payne, Jr. (Tashika), Jalisha Williams, Anthoniqua Payne, Miaya Braswell, Dwayne Payne, Demetrius Payne (Alina), Deshon Payne, Tannicia Williams, Shelbie Clark, Anthony Payne Jr, Erica Payne; great grandchildren, Dontavius Handford, Aniya Handford, Olivia Braswell, Rimiaya Williams, Reagan Ashley, DeAndre Edwards, Xavier Williams, Jah'Karia Green, Jaire Clark, Kia Brown, Rohan Jennings, Jayla Payne, Kayla Payne, Ivory Payne, Kody Payne, Carmelo Payne, Demetrius Payne, Jr., Wil'Lasia Jenkins, Willie Jenkins, III, Tyrone Sheffield; friends, Jimmie Braswell, and Ann Bell; and a host of cousins.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home. The family and friends are asked to meet at the graveside on Friday for the service. We are following CDC guidelines.
