Mamie Lee Williams-Thompson entered this world on May 16, 1938, in Mobile, Alabama. She earned her primary education in Alabama. She later attended Don Thompson Vocational School in Tampa, Florida, where she trained for a career in the medical field. She attended Middleton High School, where she played on the basketball team and earned her diploma in the graduating, class of 1956. Mamie attended Hillsborough Community College for a brief period and later received her associate's degree in psychology and counseling from Florida Metropolitan University in Tampa, Florida. She also earned a certified nursing assistant certification. Throughout her life, Big Mama worked in many roles, always known for her strong work ethic. In her early years she worked for Bragg Chiropractic Clinic, the Rippa family, and Shirley Green Restaurant. She worked as a crossing guard for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department and was a mail machine operator for Equifax. She worked as a certified nursing assistant, and later, a custodial contractor at Bible-Based Fellowship Church of Temple Terrace. Mamie was a driver and jumper for Loomis, Brinks, and Wells Fargo armored car services. She was also a long-term state security officer for Raymond James and the Tampa Convention Center. Mamie was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She was a dedicated member of The Gospel Legends and The Halos, gospel singing groups in Tampa, Florida. In 1958, Mamie married Chester C. Thompson, Sr. whom she adored and had two children, Jermone C. and Phyllis Denise Thompson-Walters. She departed this life on February 28, 2026, with her loving children by her side.

Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Chester C. Thompson, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Mamie Parker; father, Rev. Dr. Aaron Ben Williams; mother, Lula Bell "MoMo" Marshall; bonus parents, Leola McRae and Major and Fannie "Shorty" James-Robinson; stepmother, Leola Williams; aunt, Mary Andrew; brothers, Andrew and David Marshall; stepsons, Chester C. Jr., Herman and Warren Thompson; first husband Tom Neal; family friend, Sgt. Sam Philmore; and her only beloved '14' year-old grandson on June 11, 2019, "The Game Changer," Hezekiah Ben Walters.

Fondly known as "Big Mama", she leaves to cherish her memories: long-term significant other, Sgt. Jackie James; son, Jerome C. Thompson and his wife, Tanya Johnson-Thompson; daughter, Phyllis Denise Thompson-Walters; bonus sons, Sam and Rudy Philmore; bonus daughters, Lucinda Neal-Askew, Samarah Philmore and Tiffany Franklin; granddaughters, Morgan Thompson and Dr. Phyllisity Walters; grandson in love, Christopher Parks II; sisters, Wanda Williams, Fairfax, AL; Patricia Johnson, Chicago, IL; and Lue Edna Marshall, Tampa, FL; brother, Elisha: "Jun-Jun" Marshall, Jr., Tampa, FL; bonus sister, Margaret Love, Tampa, FL; cousin, Eleanor Randall, Birmingham, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends including the loving St. John neighbors and West Tampa families: Williams, Palmer, Hicks, Allen, Thomas, Rodriguez, Jordan, Graham, Martin, Abreu, Tillman, Hill, Jones Sankofa, Roe, Southers, Brown, Adams, Home, Donnell, Arenas, Richardson, Taylor, Robinson-James, Randall, Dixon-Thompson-Poole, Neal, Echols, and Marr; Dayle and Patsy Greene, Aaron and Tiffany Berry, Falu and Tamara Ginsanri and many other special relatives, both near and far.
