Obituary

Homegoing services for Mother Maomi Jones of Tampa, who passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011, will be held on Saturday, August 13th, 11:00 a.m., New Salem M.B. Church, 405 N. Oregon St., with Rev. H. Lyons Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mo. Maomi Jones was born in Sumter County, Americus, Georgia on June 3, 1928 to the parentage of Eugene Hawkins and Amie Stephens Hawkins. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter, County. She was converted at an early age and joined Friendship M.B. Church of Americus, was baptized and sang in the junior choir. In later years she moved to Tampa and joined Greater New Salem Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.M. Scott. She served on the usher board, the young women Christian Guild, the hospitality committee, the welfare and planning committee of the church school, church school teacher, choir person of food committee and a member of the II 3 choir. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Jones of New Haven, Connecticut; cousins, Mrs. Hattie Bell Jones and Mo. Maggie Ruth Hordge both of Tampa, Florida; a host of friends, Mr. Ferman Sam, Mo. Thelma Green, Catherine Davis, Pauline McWilliams and Edna McGriff; and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will held on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The family will receive from 5-6 p.m. The family will and friends are asked to meet at the Church on Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
