Marcus
Elkins
July 7, 1964 – March 14, 2020
Marcus was born on July 7, 1964 in Warren, OH. He was the second child born to
Carolyn E. Elkins.
He attended elementary, middle and high school in Trumbull county, graduating from
Warren G. Harding High School in 1982. He continued his formal education at the
University of Cincinnati, Allegheny College and Findlay College before being drafted
to play professional football in the Canadian Football League. After 10 years of
playing professional football, he returned to Ohio and worked in various industries
(Juvenile Justice, sales and retail) for several years before deciding to relocate to
Florida.
After moving to Florida, Marcus worked in sales before transitioning to management.
While working in retail management, he decided to confess his sins and turn his life
over to Christ. This journey started with him being an usher in his church, then
becoming an armor bearer to the pastor. After participating in a Ministers-in-Training
Program, Marcus decided to heed the voice of God and answer his call to the
ministry. Answering his call led him to New Millennium Community Church, where
he served as an associate minister.
Marcus enjoyed playing all sports - baseball, basketball, football, softball, golf and
became an avid bowler in his adult years.
He is survived by his wife, LaShaunn; sons, Justin and Aiden; daughters Mia, Taylor
and Tiffany (Harold); mother: Carolyn, siblings: Mario (Alicia), Greg (Chris), Charles
(Becky), Randy (Sheree), Ralph (Shaunette), Jennifer (Loring), Theresa and Jackie;
aunts: Anita Caldwell and Geraldine Craig; uncle: Cleo Elkins, Jr.; honorary brother:
Earl (John); goddaughter: Maya Thomas and a host of surrogate children, nieces,
nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and older brother, Winfred Patterson.
