A homegoing celebration for Mr. Marion Berlin Gilbert of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Rev. Joseph Reed, Jr., officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Marion Berlin Gilbert was born on February 26, 1940 in Marianna, Florida to Rochester and Annie Bell Gilbert. He accepted Christ on July 2, 1953 and was baptized that same year at St. Mary Baptist Church in Jacob, Florida. The family relocated to Tampa, Florida in 1941 and began attending New Mt. Zion M.B. Marion graduated from Blake High School in 1961. In 1988, he married Nancy Gilbert and they became faithful members of King Boulevard Baptist Church. Marion was a devoted trustee and served on the usher board. During his lifetime, Marion worked for the Marriot Lufthansa skychefs where he dedicated 36 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rochester Gilbert and mother Annie Bell Gilbert. He leaves to cherish his fond memories with his wife, Nancy Gilbert; children, Vincent Sanders, Douglas Sanders, Jr. (Aisha) and Octavious Sanders; sisters, Cassie Taylor (Walter) and Barbara Mitchell; brother, Michael Gilbert (Juanita); sisters-in-law, Joyce Wilson and Gwendolyn Turner (Melvin) of Bainbridge, GA and Juanita Griffin; brother-in-law, James Griffin; two devoted grandchildren, Leroy Bell III and Jada Bell: nieces and nephews, Angela B. Taylor, Dwayne D. Taylor (Joan), Christopher Mitchell, Lennard D. Gilbert (Vivian), Brian M. Gilbert (Lisa) and Sharel Mitchell; great nieces and nephews, Rafeal D. Adams, Alexis D. Taylor, Baili N. Martin and Jorden E. Taylor; special friends, Mary Williams, Rev. Joseph Reed, Jr and Evelyn Holmes and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday. June 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
