Obituary

A homegoing celebration for Mr. Marlon Gabriel McCalla of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 will be held Friday, June 30th, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Min. Ernesto McCalla, Jr. officiating. The interment will be in Florida National Cemetery. Marlon was born in Tela, Honduras, C.A., Marlon was born to Ernesto (Neto) M McCalla and Manuela (Nelly) McCalla on May 18, 1958. He was the youngest of five children. Marlon and his siblings moved to Brooklyn, NY on September 10, 1966 at eight years of age. He attended P.S. 167 (Elementary), P.S. 210 (Junior High School) and went on to John Jay High School. Immediately thereafter, in 1976, Marlon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He did his Basic Training at Camp Lejeune, SC and his military service in Okinawa, Japan. On July 27, 1979, Marlon received an honorable discharge from the Marines due to illness. Consequently, unable to care for himself, he returned home to live with his mother in New York. Shortly thereafter, he was placed in the care of his sister in New Orleans, Louisiana. Finally, when his mother relocated to Tampa, Florida, Marlon came home to her in Tampa where he lived until our LORD called him home. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernesto McCalla, Sr.; grandmothers, Teresa Ramos and Rosa Roberts; niece, McKenzie Peoples. He leaves to cherish his precious memories with his mother, Manuela A. McCalla; brother, Ernesto McCalla, Jr. (Debra); sisters, Ingrid McCalla-Peoples, Isolina Daniel and Judy McCalla-Courtney (Carlton); nephews, Derek McCalla, Cameron Daniel, Vincent Seaberry and Reishard Montgomery; nieces, Tashika McCalla, Rhea McCalla-Velasquez, Deanna Daniel, Pia Daniel, Nekia Seaberry and Ashley Montgomery; 13 great-nieces and nephews; a host of family and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, June 30th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Friday for the service.
