Obituary

Homegoing for Mrs. Martha Long Peeples who passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2015, will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Minister Olivia Harrison, officiating. Martha Long was born August 17, 1922 to the parents of Joe and Viola (Hinson) Long in Cottondale, Florida. Martha was one of eight children; six of her siblings preceded her in death; including her twin sister, Mary. Martha relocated to Tampa at an early age. Later in life she married Bernard Peeples, to this union one daughter, Arlesia (Lisa) was born. Lisa preceded her mother in death, but left a beautiful brown skinned son, Bernardo Ricardo Richardson. Martha's grandson was the joy of her life and gave her the will to fight the fight to see him become a well-rounded young man. She accepted Christ early in life and before her health failed, worshipped at the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Martha's home was always the gathering place for family and friends. She always made a place for a brother or sister or friends to lay their heads. Before her health failed, Martha could be found in the kitchen preparing a feast on Sunday. On holidays, her home was where family would get together and break bread. She leaves to celebrate her home going her grandson, Bernardo Richardson (his friend Simone Brazell); sister, Viola D. White, brother, Eddie long; a special nephew, Charles Long (Felecia); several nieces, Olivia Harrison, Roslyn Clemons, M. Diane Long, Brenda Cogdell (Matthew), Ethel Long Catlin, Sharon Long Anderson (Lester) and Karen Long; and many more great nieces and nephews, goddaughter, Beverly; caring neighbors and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, August 21st, from 5-8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the Chapel on Saturday for the service.
