Homegoing services for Mrs. Mary Jean Greene of Tampa who passed away Friday, August 31, 2012, will be held Saturday, September 8th, 10:00 a.m., at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 E. Lake Ave., Rev. H.L. Daniels, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Jean Greene was born on February 25, 1948 in Tampa, Florida to the late Mr. Joseph Gibbons, Sr. and Ms. Lois Williams. She attended Middleton High School in Tampa, Florida and earned her high school degree in Guam. Mary was a certified nurse assistant (CNA) working for Canterbury Towers, a dietary cook working for the Home Association and a school crossing guard for Hillsborough County Public Schools. Mary was an active member of the church; who served as a deaconess and served on the usher board and also was a member of the Sarcoidosis Support Group. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to all her children and her children's friends. She had a special heart for the elderly and this was shown by her watching over them, driving them to church, the store and doctor's appointments. Mary always thought about others first. Her compassion for others was shown by all of the simple acts that she did each day by always putting others needs before her own. Mary had and out going and bubbly personality. She always had a smile on her face. Mary never met a stranger but embraced all of the new people she met as her friend. She welcomed everyone with open arms and a loving heart. This is a testimony to her any friends. She loved to talk and tell stories. Mary loved to talk about old times, the way it was when was growing up and about all of her many friends through the years. Mary was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and would share all of their accomplishments with everyone. For this, she will be truly missed. Mary was preceded in death by her former husbands, Willie Ray Mason, Jr., father of Marie, Darlenee, Willie Ray, Jr., and Mr. Alton Washington; her daughter, Sony L. Greene-Scott and granddaughter, Jaisa Scott. She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her children, Marie Deshon Mason, Noble Griffin Green IV and wife, Carla and Angel Joy Greene; former husband, Noble Griffin Green, Sr.; brothers and sisters, Elijah Gibbons and wife, Regainer, Ethel Chapman, Carolyn Mathis and husband, Willie and Joseph Gibbons, Jr. and Virginia; grandchildren, Tara Scott, Noble Griffin Greene V, Roosevelt Scott III, Justus Myles Greene, Micah Hughes, Malaya Creal, Makaila Greene and Cameron Darnell; great grandchildren, Jeffrey Nelson, LaMya Nelson, Elijah Greene and King Greene; special friends and family, Amanda Eagle, Darlenee Mason and Melvin Bryant and Willie Ray Mason III; good friends, Jeffrey Branton, Sandra Hill and Mary Jean Frasier; and a host of other relatives and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 7th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
