Homegoing celebration for Mrs. Mary Deborah Simmons Larry of New York who passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 will be held Saturday, September 13th at 2:00 p.m., Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd, Rev. Quantai Washington associate minister of First Baptist Church of College Hill, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mary attended Middleton High school. On July 1, 1971 Mary was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Freddie Lee Larry. In 1978, Mary relocated to New York where she spent most of her life. She graduated from Wilfred Academy Beauty School and began working as a hairdresser. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children. After a long hard fight with cancer and multiple strokes, she passed away at Terrance Cardinal Cook Nursing Home in New York City. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Lucretia Mae Teart; brothers, Joseph and Angel Simmons; and a special aunt, Barbara Jean Hawkins. She leaves to cherish precious memories with husband, Freddie Lee Larry Sr.; five sons, Freddie Lee Larry Jr. (NYC), Mario Larry (NYC), Giovanni Jimenez (NYC), Troy Rivers, Jr. (IL) and Jesus Rivers (IL); three daughters, Tracy L. Cole (Bradley) Tampa, Melody Anderson (NYC) and Michele Anderson (NYC); 12 grandchildren; father, Cornell Simmons; 3 brothers, Dornell Simmons Sr. (Tampa), Athel Simmons (NYC) and Anthony Teart (Angela) CA.; 2 sisters, Ms. Lula Ester Simmons (Tampa) and Annette Burroughs (NYC); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and dear friends will also cherish her fond memories. The visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday for the service.
