Obituary

A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Mary Frances Underwood of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 will be held Saturday, November 3rd, 11:00 a.m. will be held at St. John Progressive M.B. Church, 2504 E. Chipco St., Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Sr., pastor officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Mary Frances Underwood was born in Tampa, Florida on January 8, 1950 to the late James Hosey and Minnie Lee Hosey. She was raised by her parents, Fess and Ruby Chatman, who preceded her in death. Mary attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. She went on to study at Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida. She worked as an underwriter in the insurance industry until her retirement in April 2018. She joined St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. F. G. Hilton. She was a faithful member of St. John Progressive M. B. Church and served as an usher on Usher Board #1. She also worked tirelessly with the youth and younger children of the church.

Mary departed this life on October 25, 2018. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mamie B. Gallmon and Lillie Mae Jones and her brother, and James Lester Hosey. Fond and loving memories will remain with her devoted daughter, Nakisha Adegbayibi (Jamal); stepchildren, Kenneth Underwood (Shanice), Reynold Underwood (Latrice), Shenaye Lyles, Robert Lyles, Jr.; her special friend, Robert Lyles; sisters, Cora Yopp, Wille Mae Johnson (Calvin), Betty Burnett, Deborah Clark; brothers, Wiley B. Jones, Michael Hosey, Ed Foley (Gail); goddaughter, Yvonne Russ; devoted friend, Denise Holmes; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, November 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
