Griffin Henderson
May 6, 1947 – January 6, 2026
Matriarch Carolyn Griffin-Henderson was born on May 6, 1947, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Alma and Richard Griffin. She was a proud graduate of Central High School. Carolyn was a devoted servant of the church and made history as the first secretary to Bishop Michael Lewis, Sr. of Harvest Fellowship Church. She later continued her faith journey as a member of New Beginnings Church in Tampa. Carolyn was also a cherished member of the Lee Davis Senior Care Center, as well as self-reliance center, where she enjoyed fellowship and community. She found joy in participating in senior clubs, dancing, and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma & Richard Griffin; daughter, Tammy Griffin; brothers, James Griffin, Eddie Griffin and Milton Griffin; sisters, Hattie Childs, Dorothy Lowe and Roxie Hawkins; husband, Willie James Henderson; mother-in-law, Cora Govan; and family members, Jacqueline Bryant, Lamont and Avery; and a host of deceased aunts and uncles in New Jersey and Florida.
She leaves cherished memories to her son, Derrick Griffin (Tampa, FL); daughters, Tomeko Young (Robert) of Palm Bay, FL, Elder Monique Henderson Wilson (John) of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Dassan Henderson, Angelica Griffin, Najiyah Henderson, Tamara Young, Jasmeen Henderson, Rashayah Auletta, Robert Young, Jr., Robin Young, Jerry Wells, Jr. and Jervon Wells; great-grandchildren, Dijon, Za'mya, Cherish, Antonio, Cedianna, Kenol, Kamya, Janeisya, Legend, Lailoni, Lashanti, Janiyah, Raih, Harmony, Jerry III, Camirra, Malaysia, Jere'myia, Jayden, Johnah, Jervon, Jr., Ja'lanai, Taylin, Jolly, Josiah, Jessiah and Alaya; great-great-granddaughter, Alaina Johnson; sister-in-law, Nora Roberts of Tampa, FL; aunt, Margie Griffin; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in New Jersey and Florida; close friends, Barbara, Ms. Kimberly, Ms. Grace and the Govan family. Carolyn will be lovingly remembered for her kind heart, warm smile, sense of humor, and friendly spirit. She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
