Obituary

Funeral services for Bro. Matthew Harper, of Tampa, who succumbed to this life to answer the Master's Calling on Sunday, May 29, 2011, will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 11 a.m. at Northside M.B. Church, 5704 N. 40th Street, Tampa, Rev. Ricardo Robinson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Bro. Harper was born July 16, 1918, in Americus, Georgia, to the parents of Elder and Sis. Mariah Harper who preceded him in death. Bro. Harper received his education in the public schools of Americus, Georgia. After his education, he joined the U.S. Army. He served in World War II and was discharged with Honors. Bro. Harper retired from Gulf Atlantic Road Builders in 1981. Bro. Harper moved to Tampa, Florida, where he met his loving wife, Sis. Mildred Harper. They were united in holy matrimony in 1962. They shared their lives together until she preceded him in death on May 17, 1999. Bro. Harper leaves to cherish his memories four sisters, Maggie Bownes and Leola Sims of Americus, Georgia; Mary Jordan and Rachel Harper of Atlanta, Georgia; like a daughter, Mable Hamilton, and goddaughter, Charmine Rivers, both of Tampa, Florida; one sister-in-law, Inez Griffin of Perry, Florida; one brother-in-law, John L. Shaw of Miami, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; devoted friends, Mary Tompson, Dwyne McDaniels, Isaac Branton and Annie Branton, David Roundtree, Earlene Lancaster, Charlie Jackson, Larry Taylor, Thomas Hamilton, Jose Rivera, Orinee Taylor, all of Tampa, Florida, Felix Wright of Miami, Florida; and many other devoted friends and neighbors. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday for the service.
