Mattie M.
Carter
August 8, 1936 – July 16, 2025
Mattie Mae Carter was born August 8, 1936, in Carnegie, GA, to Willie Carter, Sr., and Eunice Carter. Mattie, who mostly went by "Mat," was small in stature, but her presence was always large and in charge. She was highly fashionable, sociable, and had many friends of different age groups. She was always the life of the party. Mattie loved to play cards and was good at it. She also liked to travel. Mat always kept up with the changing of times. You can bet she was going to get and know how to use whatever new technology was introduced. She was a collector of all sorts of things, but dolls were her favorite. She also loved music, Jazz, and R&B, but country was her favorite. Mattie was a cook in different hotels around Tampa, but the last one was The Hard Rock. She always talks about how she was there when it started as a small "little shack" and grew into a major hotel brand. Just a month shy of her 89th birthday. Mattie passed away at home with family at her bedside.
She is preceded in death by her father, Willie Carter Sr.; mother, Eunice Carter; son, Isaac Carter; sister, Martha; brother-in-law, Bennie Gilley; brothers, Timothy and Vience Carter; nieces, Gloria Carter, and Juanita Serano; nephews, Byron Patty, Sr., and Byron Patty, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory to; siblings, Willie Carter, Jr., Teresa Cannon (Gilbert), Maxine Carter, Regina Carter Cross; granddaughter, Stephany Jackson; great-grandchildren, Nathan I. Carter, Asia S. Carter, and Antonio D. Jackson (Nabrishia); great great-grandchildren, Louis A. Carter, De'Ayzia McGruder, Jazlyn Carter, Nathan I Carter, Jr., A'ryss Jackson, Aria Watson, Ariel Jackson; godchildren, Bobby Carson, and Otis Neal. Mattie also leaves a host of other loving relatives and friends to forever cherish her memory and reflect on all the joy, love, and laughter she brought to their lives.
