Homegoing services for Mrs. Mattie Griffin of 8218 N. 17th Street, who passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010, will be held Saturday, February 6th, 2:00 p.m., Holsey Temple Church, 3729 N. 15th Street, Rev. Llyod C. Black, officiating. Interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Mattie was born November 12, 1944 in Havana, Florida and a longtime resident of Tampa. She loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and she was a very hard worker. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Runell Griffin, Sr., son, Ray Peterson, Clarence Copeland, IV and brothers, William Griffin, Jr. and Felix Griffin. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted companion for 36 years, Clarence Copeland, III; children, Leroy, Joyce, and Angela Peterson, Angela and Calvin Shaw, Makita Berry (Otis), Bridgette, Evangela, Lloyd, Tony and Gino Copeland; 41 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Leroy (Jackie) Griffin of Miami, L.C. Griffin, Robert (Gloria) Griffin and Sam Griffin, all of Tampa, Freddie (Valerie) Griffin, of St. Petersburg, Jessie (Lois) Griffin of Tallahassee and Rudolph Griffin of Havana; sister, Ella Griffin; nieces, LaRonda Moore, Alicia and Teresa Griffin, TyRonda Leggett and Felicia Horton; nephews, Maxie Moore, Dexter Williams, Kelvin Griffin and Antonio Griffin; mother-in-law, Daisy Horton; goddaughters, Carlette Pringle, Sharon Harley, Miosha Henderson, Karen Slipp, Keshona Brown and Sherita (Tony) Lovette; friends, Betty Baker, Linda Jenkins and Dorothy M. Cochan; and a host of other sorrowing family members and friends. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, February 5th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service on Saturday.
