A celebration of life for Deaconess Mattie Howell Smalls will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at First Union M.B. Church, 3707 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa, FL. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. On Thursday, January 17, 2013 she heard the Master's voice gently whispering come on up home thy good and faithful servant take thy rest. Deaconess Smalls was born April 22, 1927 in Powersville, GA to the late Kib and Carrie Howell. She had 10 brothers and sisters, 7 preceding her in death. Early in life she married John W. Brady and to this union 1 child was born. Later she married Ulysses G. Bryant and to this union 2 children were born. In 1951 she moved to Tampa, FL where she met and married the late Grady Smalls, Sr. on December 22, 1957. To this union 8 children were born. Accepting Christ, Sis Smalls joined First Union M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Rufus Williamson. A faithful and dedicated member for 52 years, she was a member of the Deaconess Board. She was also a member of the Lily White Society. She leaves a legacy of love in her 11 children: Gladys Brady (Delbert) of Tampa, FL, Willie J. Bryant of Daytona Beach, FL, Pastor Rosalyn Bryant Wilkerson (Pastor Arthur) of Panama City, FL, Debra and Lavern Smalls, Sharon Smalls Tolbert (Joseph), Rhonda Smalls, Grady Smalls, Jr., Shonda Smalls Saunders (Phillip), Velva Smalls Clethen (Kevin) and Lori Smalls all of Tampa, FL. Grandchildren: John Brady, Michael Hicks, Lenora Lazano, and Kimberly Niblack all of Tampa, Kassandra Kornegay (Edward), William J.U. Bryant (Jessica) all of Warner Robins, GA, Valeria Archie of Tampa, FL, Master Sergeant Joseph Wilkerson stationed in Afghanistan, Arthur F. Wilkerson of Miami, FL, Jaron Smalls, Keyvus Smalls (Mary), Phillip Saunders, Jr., Christopher Smalls, Alexis Clethen all of Tampa, FL. Great Grandchildren: Brittany Wright, Jose Lazano, Sariah Mathis, Travis Mathis Jr., Justin Bryant, William J.T. Bryant, Marius Niblack, Kristopher Kornegay, Nicholas Kornegay, Jaden Bryant, Aaron Rivers, Zhrie Bryant, Briannna Kornegay, Alanah Kornegay, Ashlon Joshua(Michael), Deja Bryant, Sterling Smalls, Keyvus Smalls,Jr.,Jordan, Kaden, Laila and Christian Smalls. A host of, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. The viewing will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
