Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Maureen Kay Lasing of Tampa who passed away, Saturday, August 21, 2010, will be held Saturday, August 28th, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, with Rev. Dr. Evans Burrows, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Maureen Kay Lasing was born June 20, 1953 in Tampa, Florida to the late Beulah Mae Padgett Center and the late Mr. William C. Center. She attended public schools in Hillsborough County, Beauford, S.C. and Keysville, Georgia. She attended HCC and graduated from Tampa Technical Institute as a CNA. She was previously employed by Padgett Boarding Home as a CNA, Padgett Nursing Homes as Laundry and Housekeeping Supervisor, owned by her late grandmother, Mrs. Susie Mae Padgett and operated by her uncle, Mr. Ruben E. Padgett. She was also employed at the Central TPA Nursing Home as Housekeeping Supervisor. She was employed by Hillsborough County, Cross Town Express through Faunal until her health declined. From a child to young adult she was a member of Pleasant Chapel AME Church, later she moved her membership to First Baptist Church of College Hill, under the pastorate of Rev. Abraham Brown and now Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Evans Burrows. She faithfully served in the Senior Adult Choir and on the Senior Usher Board and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She departed this Christian race on Saturday, August 21, 2010. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Beulah Mae Padgett Center; father, William C. Center; grandmothers, Mrs. Susie Mae Padgett and Mrs. Mae Hoefoer Center; grandfathers, Mr. Otis Padgett, Sr. and Mr. Heyward H. Center; uncles, James Padgett, Odell Padgett, John Henry Padgett Otis Padgett, David Center and Hardy Lee Center; aunt, Thelma Center; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Lasing. Kay leaves to cherish fond memories: a devoted husband, Mr. Rodney Lasing; son, Mr. Kevin Center, Sr.; grandson, Kevin Center, Jr.; sister, Patricia Ann Young; uncles, Mr. Ruben E. Padgett, former County Commissioner (Richiedeen), Mr. Hayward Center (Julia) of Columbia, S.C.; a devoted aunt, Mrs. Mary Padgett, Mae Frances C. Blocker (Johnnie) of Columbia, S.C., Mary Louise Center Grant of Durham, N.C.; niece, Katrina Center; nephew, Alton Center of Jacksonville, Fl; grand nephew, Isaiah Center; a devoted father-in-law, Mr. Edmund Lasing; a devoted sister-in-law, Mrs. Sharrel Carter (Wayne), Bettye Upshaw (Pastor Carnell), Barbara Jolly (Jasper), Sheryl Smalls (Levi); brothers-in-law, James Leavertis Stevens (Patricia) and James Leroy Stevens (Martha); special friends, Mrs. Martha and Mr. Buddy, Mrs. Diane Shaw, Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Mrs. Joan K. Harris and Mrs. Barbara Reese; and a host of sorrowing cousins, other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 27th at Aikens Funeral Home from 5-8 pm. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
