Obituary

Maxine Ford Bodden was born November 20, 1938, in Detroit Michigan. She was born to the late Ernest Ford Sr and Alice (Moffett) Ford, the fourth of six siblings. She was 6 when her father passed away and 9 when her mother passed away. She and her siblings were raised by their aunt Ida Mae Pew. After graduating from Cass Tech High School she helped raise her sisters children. In 1963 Maxine went to visit her older brother Ernie who was stationed in West Point NY. During that visit he introduced her to one of his closest friends who would become the love of her life, Joseph P. Bodden Sr. She remained in West Point working as a nurses assistant at the hospital and as a hostess at the Officer's Club. She and Joe were married on December 26, 1964. During years of multiple deployments, both stateside and abroad, Maxine was a devoted, supportive wife and loving, caring mother.

In 1980, with their 2 children getting older, Maxine and Joe chose to establish roots in Harrisburg PA so the children could have stability. As Joe was winding down his military career, both he and Maxine embarked on careers with the Commonwealth of PA. Maxine served in many administrative roles, the longest working with the Department of Public Welfare. In July 1998 Maxine and Joe decided to retire from the Commonwealth of PA and relocated to Florida, settling in Valrico. Not one to stay idle, Maxine began working with Busch Gardens and Adventure Island in the culinary division, retiring again in 2016. When not working she loved traveling with Joe, especially cruising and their annual trips to Las Vegas. Maxine also enjoyed bingo, cooking, and shopping. She especially loved shoes, purses, and hats. She also loved hosting large family gatherings at her home. The family always knew where to be Thanksgiving and Memorial Day. And if they wanted chitlins on New Years Day they knew where to come and that she would have a plate for them. She was a fiercely loving wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, and friend.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ernest Jr, Joel, Jerome, and Alphene, and sister Ernestine. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56+ years Joseph P. Bodden Sr, daughter Karen Humpheries, son Joseph P. Bodden Jr (Becky), grandchildren Cameron Humpheries, Jada Humpheries, Madelynn Bodden (Ted), Joseph P. Bodden III, great-granddaughter Delilah Dillingham, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
