Mother Maxine 'Maxie' Smith

A Homegoing Celebration for Mother Maxine Smith of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 will be held Saturday, July 20th, 2:00 p.m. at Friendly M.B. Church, 2012 N. Tampania St., Rev. Johnny Miller, pastor, officiating. The interment will be held in Florida National Cemetery. Maxine Smith was born October 1, 1928 in Montrose, Georgia to the late Joe Hughes and Sarah Tillman. She enjoyed reading, shopping, cleaning and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Smith; children, Forrest and Anthony Gilmore, Patricia Small and Patrick Smith; sisters, Betty Island and Tellen Taylor; brothers, Roy Hall and Thomas Taylor. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her children, Jacquelyn Gilmore, Mary Archie, Christopher Smith, Marvin Smith and Kenneth Smith; grandchildren, Torrence, Nicky, April, Ronald, Marwan, Zain, Yma, Tiara, Omonik, Topi, Josh, Mikey, Kiyah, Mona, Jamal, Amin, Patrick, Chris, Patrika, Marlo, Barisha and Denise; 45 great-grandchildren and 55 great-greatgrandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Aside, Joann Hughes and Monia Hughes; sister-in-law, Emma Taylor; nieces, Mary Taylor, Darsena Reynolds and Terri Todd; nephews, Thomas, Robbie and Marble Taylor; friends, Verdell Mickens, Charles Gantt and Mary Daniels; grandson-in-law, Emmanuel Watson and granddaughter-in-law, Denise Small; a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, July 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
