Obituary

Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. M. Bernice Scott-Dew who passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014, will be held on Saturday, February 1st, at 12:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd, Rev. Frank Gray, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Bernice was born in Sumter, S.C. and was a graduate of Manchester High School in Pinewood, S.C. In 1964 she followed her sister, Jessie Montgomery, to Tampa, and from that time considered herself a native. Bernice earned bachelor and master's degrees from the University of South Florida and in June 2013, retired from teaching in the Hillsborough County school system. During her thirty-three years in the school system Bernice taught at five high schools, creating or revitalizing business departments and serving as department chair and FBLA advisor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hillard Moore, Sr. and Rosabelle Felder; brothers, Alan, Doulglas and Joe Lewis Felder and sisters, Mazie Felder and Julia Gaymon. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, John Dew; daughter, Joy Dew; brother, Hillard Moore, Jr.; sister, Jessie Montgomery; nephews, Timothy Lawson, Horace, Jr. Floyd, Joseph, Arnold, Carl, Calvin and Cory Montgomery, Larry and Marvin Felder, Herman and Henry Gaymon; nieces, Evelyn Kendrick, Tosha Montgomery, Teressa Sharper, Michelle Shaw, Lois Ann Gaymon and Glenda Coard; as well as many great-and great-great nephews and nieces and a host of cousins and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 31st from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Saturday for the service.
